It was the first role he ever auditioned for and landed it right away! His last name Van Der Beek is dutch for 'by the brook'. His fav directors are Steven Spielberg(how sooo Dawson!!!) and Oliver Stone. James' shares an apartment with Joshua Jackson in Wilmington right now. Dawson Leery the star of Dawsons Creek is a burgeoning film-maker whose over-active imagination sometimes make him oblivious. He is prone to rejecting reality for a more romantic scenario. He is an idealist--"I reject reality" he tells his best friend Joey Potter. He's also a tragically nice guy who is always ready to help anyone.
